Provoking thoughts
Putting a STAKE on the BBQ
“I believe there needs to be a global drive emphasising Longer Term Planning and Leadership Development. The crux of this is the need to develop a ‘Success Culture’ verses a culture which says it is OK to be second best. In my opinion, companies need to be thinking twenty to thirty years ahead. I find a tendency for people to plan vague strategies only and have to ask if this is so they cannot be held accountable should the organisation actually fail to achieve anything measurable.”
Insanity – Doing the Same Things Over and Over and Expecting a Different Result
Just look at some of the issues we currently have to face; education, health, roading and air transport just to name a few. Look very closely at the root cause of many of these issues and consider what might have been if we had looked and planned much further into the future.
For example, how many millions of dollars worth of roads have we had to tear up because we had not thought of some other looming changes when we constructed them back only a few years ago? Why are people dying due to a health system that is unable to handle or cope with the demand? Why are so many still unemployed when there is so much that needs doing?
DNA – DESTINATION, NAVIGATION and ATMOSPHERE
I believe the way to get going in a positive and constructive way is for us all to get back to basics and get the DNA right. DNA stands for DESTINATION (Where are we going?), NAVIGATION (How are we going to get there?) and ATMOSPHERE (Have we got the right environment and are our people engaged?).
Preventing Training Budgets becoming Baby Boomer's Bludgeons
“How much money is currently wasted every year on trying to ‘fix’ people? When a ‘fixed’ person goes back to work in an environment that has faulty DNA then the training budget has been truly ‘spent’. Young people nowadays of the X and Y generations are questioning, creative and ambitious. It is like keeping the top on a bottle of fizzy drink to send them out for training, get them highly motivated and have them return to a controlling environment run by Beige, Boring and Benign ‘Budgeters’.”
To Mastering Success
The only way an organisation will change effectively is if everyone starts to THINK differently about who they are, what they stand for, where they are going, why they are going there, how they are going to get there, why it is so important they get there and what are the rewards once they do get there.
While at the start, there will be hurdles to leap over; the benefits soon start to out-pace the costs.
Will you dare to live, live to lead and lead to win?
